Sonic Advance is a light-weight, portable and totally free of charge game for the Sega Genesis and 32X. The development was started by a group of friends in Germany and completed mainly by them. The idea behind Sonic Advance is to reuse the engine programmed for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but using completely new graphics to create a game that's far easier to play than the original.
With the unreleased Mute City, Sega experimented with the best way to push the graphics on Sega Mega Drive to the limit, with Sonic 2 some 10 years earlier. Under Mute City, the sound engine is using the maximum quality mulitplex sound, while the UHB chip is enhanced to handle more sprites, more movement and more sprites on screen. This is all this game gets from Mute City that was so close to being released, but it was never released, as the two Japanese manufactures of Sega products simply did not need it, as the three Genesis games they had in stores on launch day (Mario, Sonic and Main Theme) was enough (except for the European version, of course).
The Be Your Own Adventure World was a world where you could choose whatever you wanted to be. You could be a star, a wet noodle, a fluttering butterfly, or the chipmunk hero of every little kid from 1 to 99. You could even be a bad guy called the Hedwig. And if you're fond of the last one, you might as well give that a try.
